How to Paint a Turquoise Side Table with Chalk Paint

If you are wanting to give a radical change to that dark and old-fashioned table that you have at home, why not go ahead and paint it turquoise?

This color works well with any type of décor, and turquoise furniture reflects light. The chalk paint is more opaque than conventional wood paints.

In addition, it grips perfectly on any finish: even if the table is varnished, you can cover it perfectly with just two hands.

Step-by-Step Tutorial

Step 1: Clean the wood well with a cloth and a mixture of spirit and alcohol.

Step 2: Sand with a sanding block or sander and medium-grit paper.

Step 3: Remove the dust with a damp cloth. When the wood is dry, apply the paint with a thick, wide brush. You can leave a thicker layer than normal, since the chalk paint hardly drips.

Step 4: If you want a rustic effect, leave the paint as it is so that the brush strokes show. But on the countertop it is better to sand with a fine-grained block (400) and then apply two coats of matt colorless varnish. This will hold perfectly.

Step 5: The rest of the furniture can be varnished, waxed or patina applied to obtain an aged effect.
