Welcome to the very first Home Depot Monthly Gift Challenge! I’ve teamed up with 11 other awesome DIY bloggers for one incredible challenge each month! Here’s the rundown: each month, one of us will choose an item from the Home Depot and a gift recipient (child, significant other, friend), and create a gift using that item. Sound awesome? I think so!
This month, we chose copper pipe fittings, such as T’s and elbows, and the gift was intended for our significant other. I do have to confess that my project wasn’t strictly a gift for my hubby, but it was made with him in mind.
If you don’t know about our current living situation, you can read more about it here. But suffice it to say, we are short on space, especially in our room, and have very small bedside tables. I have been searching for a lighting solution for our bedside for a while, and my hubby has been asking for some light on his side of the bed for even longer, as I’ve been hogging the only lamp on my side.
I originally planned on creating sconces for the wall, but I ultimately ended up with a sconce/lamp hybrid. It sits at a similar height to a lamp, but is attached to the wall, so it doesn’t take up any space on the nightstand.
I just bought a hanging lantern cord like this one, and threaded it through the pipe. I did have to cut the cord and wire it back together to get it throughout the pipe, and also to add an inline switch. This is pretty easy to do. If you need help here’s a great video on how to do it. Don’t worry, its easy!
I really love how they turned out. Simple, industrial, and functional. Oh, and affordable, too! Thanks for checking out my project!
